Grant Information
Our corporate grant application will be available beginning Saturday, May 12, 2012. Applications must be submitted using the BI-LO Charities online grant application system. A link to the application system will be posted on this website as this year’s grant process begins.

Since 1984, BI-LO Charities has invested over $50 million into our local communities. Over 500 grant requests are received annually totaling more than twice the money available for reinvestment. Given the constraints of our ability to fund and our mission to support, funding preferences will be made as follows:
Preference will be given to organizations that:
- Meet our philanthropic focus to support children, education and hunger relief
- Meet identified needs in their community
- Seek community partnerships that leverage additional support
- Are local non-profit organizations with a significant client service base that positively impacts the community
- Convey strong fiscal management with an acceptable ratio of indirect costs of 35% or less
- Demonstrate a willingness to promote their partnership with us to their board, donor constituents, and the community at large
Funding
BI-LO Charities provides funding in the form of cash donations, product, BI-LO gift cards and in-kind support, as follows:
- Cash donations through BI-LO Charities grant requests
- Cash or gift card donations
- Product Donations
Philanthropic Focus
BI-LO Charities funding will support children’s charities, education (for adults as well as children), and hunger relief agencies.
Children
- Improving the quality of life through health and safety promotion
- Prevention of child abuse and neglect
- Mentoring programs that foster life skills, self-esteem, and positive values
- Services to the mentally and/or physically disabled
Education
- School readiness
- Child and adult literacy
- Enrichment through the arts
- Mentoring programs that foster life skills, self-esteem, and positive values
- Accredited public, private, or parochial schools
Hunger Relief
- Meals-On-Wheels
- Emergency food pantries
- Community food banks
- Soup kitchens
- Feeding programs: after-school programs, group homes, and senior programs
Restrictions and Eligiblity
· BI-LO Charities’ mission is to partner with non-profit organizations in the Southeast who are passionate about:
o Improving education
o Nourishing the hungry
o Enhancing the lives of our children
· BI-LO Charities will consider funding requests between the amounts of $5,000 and $50,000.
· Preference will be given to organizations requesting funds to directly support client services.
· Multi-year and capital campaigns will generally not be funded.
o If an organization wishes to request multi-year or capital campaign support, a special Grant Application Form must be requested from the Executive Director and approval gained from the
BI-LO Charities Board of Directors.
BI-LO Charities does not fund the following:
- Individuals, private charities or private/corporate foundations
- Capital Campaigns (i.e., endowments, building funds and infrastructure projects)
- Political causes, candidates, organizations or campaigns
- Organization’s fundraising events or conferences
- Research studies
- Sports sponsorships
- Organizations outside the BI-LO trade area
To be eligible for funding consideration, organizations must:
- Be an eligible tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization or an elementary or secondary school registered with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) for accreditation purposes. Non-accredited schools will not be considered.
- Not duplicate or significantly overlap the work of public agencies on the federal, state or local level.
- Serve the community without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, veteran status, sex, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
- Comply with applicable laws regarding registration and reporting.
Special Consideration will be given to:
- Organizations who demonstrate partnership with BI-LO through their active participation in boostersplus.
- Organizations who demonstrate collaboration with other non-profits in an effort to reduce service duplication and enhance comprehensive client support.
Additional Information
A link to the 2011 grant application will be available on Friday, April 29, 2011 and must be received by BI-LO Charities, through our online grant application system, no later than Thursday, June 30 at 5:00pm EST. Applications will not be accepted after that time. Confirmation emails will be sent out upon receipt of the application.
BI-LO Charities reserves the right to award or deny requests at its sole discretion and retains the right to conduct a review on the funded organization at any time during its funding commitment. BI-LO Charities reserves the right to change this document and these guidelines at any time and with or without notice.
BI-LO Charities provides cash grants for a one-year period, unless a multi-year commitment is agreed upon. Grantees (starting with the 2008 cycles) are required to submit a report at the conclusion of their funding period before they can be considered for future funding. Decisions will be announced in October of each year and applicants will be notified by e-mail. No phone calls please.
