UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA AND WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA’S BEST GOLF COURSES TO BE PART OF NATION’S LARGEST ONE-DAY CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT
More Than 1,200 Golfers Come from Around U.S. to Play Area Courses and
Raise Funds for Charities Across Southeast
GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 28, 2010) – Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina are the home of some of the country’s most outstanding golf courses, and 12 of these courses will be hosting this year’s BI-LO Charity Classic, the nation’s largest one-day charity golf tournament.
More than 1,200 golfers will travel to the area to participate in the BI-LO Charity Classic golf tournament June 6 and 7, and while there are multiple first-class social events that make the Charity Classic such an exciting weekend, it is the chance to play these prestigious courses that draws golfers to the area. Participating courses in North Carolina include Bright’s Creek, Champion Hills and Kenmure, and South Carolina courses hosting this year’s tournament include Chanticleer at Greenville Country Club, Cliffs at Keowee Springs, Country Club of Spartanburg, Green Valley Country Club, Keowee Key, Musgrove Mill, Reserve at Lake Keowee and Riverside at Greenville Country Club.
Chanticleer at Greenville Country Club, which is located near downtown Greenville, S.C., and was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., was ranked one of the top five courses in South Carolina and one of America’s top 100 courses by Golf Digest. The course offers one of the most beautiful and challenging golf experiences available anywhere, from its rolling fairways and towering pines to the gently flowing creeks and some of the most challenging greens in the nation.
At Kenmure, located in Flat Rock, N.C., Charity Classic participants will not only enjoy magnificent views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, but this Joe Lee-designed course will also provide golfers with a stern challenge.
“This bent grass course is one of the premier private courses in western North Carolina, from the longest tees it features 6,509 yards and has a course rating of 71.2 as well as a slope rating of 130. From breath-taking course views to the stunning beauty of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s no wonder the course has been rated by Golf Week magazine as one of the top 50 developed courses,” said Steve DeWitt, PGA professional at Kenmure Country Club.
Members of the community can still register to participate in this year’s Charity Classic and play one of these outstanding courses. Individual player spots are priced at $850 and, along with 18 holes at one of the area’s best courses on Monday, June 7, include invitations for the player and a guest to the auction and pairings party on Sunday, June 6, and the post-tournament awards banquet on Monday evening. To sign up for the BI-LO Charity Classic or for more information about the tournament and the non-profit organizations it supports, please call 864-286-5895 or visit www.bi-locharities.org.
About the BI-LO Charity Classic
The BI-LO Charity Classic began in 1983 as a fundraiser for Meals on Wheels and has grown to be the largest one-day charity golf tournament in the country. During the past 26 years the tournament has raised more than $48 million to support hundreds of charities throughout BI-LO’s four-state operating area of South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia. Funds from the Charity Classic go toward supporting organizations that focus on children’s needs, education and hunger relief.
